Fzrhas been involved in email marketing since 1995. During that time, they've managed to become one of the world's most popular email solutions, second only to Mailchimp.

I've seen that Constant Contact is frequently the top option for many other review websites. Naturally, I'm intrigued to see if our in-depth investigation yields the same results.

You may have also seen the Constant Contact reviews provided by people online, and while they are generally good, they may not provide the entire picture.

Our Constant Contact review is systematic, and it draws on our actual experience and understanding of hundreds of different basic and complicated marketing automation systems.

What distinguishes them is that they have incorporated capabilities that few of their rivals have, such as digital product downloads, event management, appointment scheduling, and social advertising, throughout the years.

In addition to automations and repeating newsletters, they all contribute to the vast variety of email possibilities accessible.

Constant Contact has a marketplace with over 400 applications and connectors to cater to even the most specialised products.

Despite these eye-catching stats and services, Constant Contact appears to be losing favour, at least according to Google Trends.

Enough cause for us to investigate Constant Contact's inner workings and determine whether it is still relevant in the twenty-first century.

If you organise events, this is a must-have:

Constant Contact is one of the few email marketing systems that allows you to handle event invites, registrations, and tickets.

Remember that this service has its own fees: 5.4% + $0.80 for each ticket sold or transaction performed.

It is not recommended if you want extensive automation:

Surprisingly, Constant Contact does not provide the most powerful automations for the premium it charges.

While they do include triggered campaigns, autoresponders, and abandoned cart campaigns (for Shopify only), you'll find that other, far cheaper platforms, like as MailerLite and Sendinblue, provide comparable degrees of automation.

Rating information

 Ease of Use

It's generally simple to use, although a little dull-looking.

You can get to most locations with a few of clicks, but as they've introduced more capability, some items, such as automations, have gotten a bit buried.

2 Newsletter Design

Editor

The editor is quick, but lacking in features, particularly in the style sector.

Aside than that, it's simple to use.

Personalization

This is quite basic, enabling you to merely put brief greetings or contact information. There is no if/then/else logic to be found.

Email formats

Classic, autoresponders, basic automations, repeating emails, A/B testing, event registrations, discounts, surveys, and polls.

3 Design Options and Flexibility

Not awful at all.

There are around 200 (!) templates to pick from, all of which are of various quality (some are decent, while others look a little basic and dated).

You may also start from scratch and use the 'Brand your email' function to automatically design a template based on the colours and logo of your website.

4 Automation of Email Marketing

They provide Shopify and WooCommerce autoresponders and abandoned cart campaigns.

Based on your consumers' experiences with your online store, it also produces pre-defined contact segments (e.g. repeat, lapsed and potential customers).

Contact trigger automations (e.g., email opens, clicks) are also accessible. It's worth mentioning that the automations aren't as versatile as they might be, since you can't fully mix criteria and actions as you can in many other programmes.

5 List Administration

Contact activity, list membership, contact details, tags, and ecommerce activity may all be used to generate segments.

You can also use your contact insights to build a segment and tag contacts depending on contact field criteria.

6 Opt-in and Opt-out Registration Forms

The form has almost no customisation, and it just provides a description box, basic field options (which you cannot add to), and a list, or lists, that individuals may check to be added to.

7 Deliverability

Constant Contact did not fare poorly in our deliverability testing, hitting the most prominent email providers (AOL, Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook) the majority of the time.

8 Analysis and Reports

Spam, bounce, and unsubscribe rates are given in addition to typical open and click metrics.

You also get click heat maps and other handy summary data, like as open and click trends, opens by device, contact engagement percentage, and most effective subject line.

Campaigns can also be compared. Advanced monitoring, such as social tracking, is not possible.

9 Languages

This is when things become dicey. Both the website and the tool are only in English.

You can alter certain of the non-editable email portions (such as the footer and privacy policy text) to one of ten accessible languages, the majority of which are European.

The knowledge base and support are provided in four languages. It's a little perplexing, but at least there's an attempt to serve multilingual users and viewers.

10 Testing for Spam and Design

Although spam testing is not accessible, there is a tool that checks the email for mistakes (missing links, placeholder content that hasn't been changed, and so on).

There's also a function that lets you preview how emails would appear to certain recipients, though it didn't seem to work when we tested it.

Litmus' 'Inbox Preview' service is accessible as an add-on, but at $10/month for only 5 tests, it's a little pricey.

10 Yes, bounce management

Soft bounces are temporarily held for 15 days before being reissued.

If this happens again, they will be placed in the suspended bounce category.

They have a'recommended for removal' filter to view these, but they are not automatically removed.

11 Blocklist\syes

Import/export is possible. Although it is not as simple as it might be, you must first activate advanced email rights in Account Settings.

Data and picture storage is offered.

Unlimited

All plans have unlimited storage.

12 Yes, several degrees of account access are available.

The Account Owner can also delegate duties such as Account Manager or Campaign Creator.

Integrations\syes

Constant Contact has around 400 applications and connections available.

Yes, Landing Page Builder.

This is only available through their form builder and is rather rudimentary.

Instead, we recommend using one of these free landing page builders Authentication

SPF and DKIM are accepted.

13 Customer Service

There are several support methods available, including live chat, phone help, a knowledge base, and community-based support.

However, I discovered that chat and phone help were not always available, which was quite aggravating.

However, when I was able to contact chat support, I found them to be prompt and helpful. Keep in mind that you'll have to contact to cancel your membership, which is inconvenient

14 Overall evaluation

Constant Contact checks most of the boxes for a simple email tool.

The fundamental issue here is that they're charging a premium for a sub-premium product.

Conclusion

Constant Contact, as stated on their website, is a tool for small businesses.

As such, it is worthwhile to evaluate them on these grounds.

As previously stated, they clearly offer enough of the fundamentals to satisfy most small firms, and if it were as simple as that, we'd recommend them even more highly.

The problem nowadays is that there are dozens of different email platforms that provide even more than Constant Contact, and for a lot less money.

This covers not just features, but also user experience. In reality, for the same price as Constant Contact, you could be utilising far more sophisticated platforms like ActiveCampaign and GetResponse.

They do get marks for having good deliverability rates, interconnections (especially social media integrations), and providing varied access levels for different users.

And, with recent improvements to automations and reporting, as well as the inclusion of new features like a website builder, it appears that they are working to improve the product. However, because of their lack of sophisticated features, it is difficult to suggest them over others at this price point.

(As you can see, we don't recommend them as a Mailchimp option.)

So, there you have it: the next time you see Constant Contact as the top-rated service on the web, I would venture to guess that there are other factors at work.

Constant Contact is now offering a free trial.

ActiveCampaign

offers one of the most advanced automation systems we've seen, and it can't be compared to Constant Contact's more straightforward approach (it only features autoresponders).

They also provide comprehensive reporting and analytical tools. Furthermore, they are less expensive than Constant Contact.

Sendinblue

is one of the most affordable all-in-one email marketing platforms available.

It is accessible in six languages and has powerful automation features as well as a built-in CRM.

GetResponse

is a good substitute. It contains numerous o

complex capabilities (for example, a webinar tool), amazing automations, and one of the best spam and design testing tools we've ever used.

That is why Constant Contact falls short of GetResponse.
